A Letter from the Phi Chapter President
Greetings Brothers of Phi Chapter,
My name is Tony Clowe, and I am proud to introduce myself as the new president of the active chapter. I am a third year student majoring in Political Science. I will go out on a limb and say I am the first president of Phi Chapter from the great city of Omaha, Nebraska. I previously held the position of Vice President and am also involved on campus as the Greek Ambassador Chairman.
Last fall produced some exciting and interesting news. To begin, we raised the GPA of the chapter to a 3.0, up .6 points from the previous semester. This is partially due to the eleven men we initiated getting the best new member GPA in over three years. With an enhanced focus on scholarship we hope to raise ourselves to have the best grades of any of the fraternities on campus.
Also in the fall we had to let go of our previous cook Teresa Rudolph. We felt it was time to part ways with her because of extenuating circumstances. However, it did not take long to find her replacement. We quickly found ourselves with the first male cook in Phi Chapter's history. His name is Aaron Lockwood and he is quite the cook. With an actual culinary degree, we have been spoiled with some of the meals he has served us.
While we have had a lot of adversity to overcome due to our probation, this semester looks to bring some fun and excitement back to the active chapter. We are sending eleven men to an All-Greek conference at UND, fifteen to the Mid-Year Leadership Conference at Iowa State University, and sent three individuals to the Deranian's President’s Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. We also had the pleasure of attending a speech by our previous Executive Director, Dave Westol, in the Memorial Union.
With the cancellation of Johnny Holms last fall, we are hoping to greatly increase our philanthropic events this spring. Our Philanthropy Chairmen, Scott Allen, is working hard on setting up a week of events during the Theta Chi Days of Giving. We are hoping that our big event will be a blood drive with smaller events including things like repairing playgrounds and a Relay For Life fund raiser. We also plan to do the Phone-A-Thon for the Children's Miracle Network, a tradition that we missed last year.
Before closing, I would like to announce that Sigma Alpha accepted our invitation for Homecoming next fall. I would also like to note that Pig Banquet did get rescheduled to March 29th, so I hope that does not cause too much trouble for people. While this arrow is an on-line edition, you can have a hard copy mailed to you if you request it. You can request this by e-mailing phipres@yahoo.com or calling me on my cell phone at 402-960-9682. My best wishes go out to all of our alumni and we as a chapter hope to see you in attendance March 29th for Pig Banquet.
